Refiner

 

The upgrade hammer are used to upgrade your items stats, such as attack of your weapon (melee), defense of your shield, armor of your helmet, armor and legs. bows and crossbows are not upgradeable.

Each time you use it on an equipment, it has a chance to upgrade your item in +1 stat (armor, attack, defense). If it fails, there is no chance to break your item or to lose any stat you've already got.

Royal Refiner You can use it to upgrade your equipment in +1 stat depending on your luck. Upgrades from +1 to +10 stats. Upgradeable items: melee weapons, helmets, armors, boots and shields.

Again, as you can see, the chances decrease as the stats increase, from 90% chance to upgrade to +1 stat, to 5% chance to upgrade to +10 stats.
